Was I was involved with Save Our Surf, the SOS chapter I was closest to was at the fire station in Kaimuki. They would meet once a week.

As it turned out, George Santos was sympathetic to the idea of SOS, but I don’t think he surfed himself. I was introduced to George at an SOS meeting.

No money, no organization. It was a fruitless endeavor (trying to change the rules for putting a sandy bottom at Waikiki). Pitted against each other were the surfers and everybody else.

George lived at Kuhio Beach and he had charter canoes he made money on. Every now and then, he’d also sell a pig.

George was living with Pete Thompson in Kalihi at the time, along with a few roommates.

George Santos rented land from the State for pig farms in Kalama Valley. He had about 20-30 pigs.
