Today I went to The Photographers’ Gallery for the first time. Located in London’s West End, the gallery is the first one of its kind in the United Kingdom devoted solely to photography.
What’s happening: I met a woman at a train station yesterday in Paris, she recommended we go check out the gallery. Upon arriving, we viewed the featured exhibition, Letizia Battaglia: Life, Love and Death in Sicily.
My takeaways:
- The choice of framing for Letizia Battaglia’s prints is again similar to the style I chose for my Dad’s current exhibit, The OGs: Photographers of the Silver Gelatin Process, as well as Céline Laguarde at Musée d’Orsay.
- I liked how contact sheets, magazine covers, video, and her book with the same title were interwoven
- Every print had a description adjacent to it
- The exhibit spanned two floors, with each floor artistically unique in its rendering of the artist’s work
Looking ahead: Upon talking with staff, it takes one to three years of planning for each exhibit.
